We welcome students in grades 1–12 whose social, emotional or behavioral health problems create challenges for them in a traditional school environment. Each student’s individual academic and clinical treatment plan is designed to address their special needs and return them to their home district school as soon as possible.

Our staff is committed to each student’s success, whether they are with us for a semester or the rest of their time in public school. Students are referred and placed at one of our five sites in Connecticut by their local educational agencies. We hold our students to high standards because we know they can learn, and can feel socially and emotionally successful.

Head of School Welcome

Shawn Cyr

Thank you for your interest in our program. It is a privilege for me to lead such an extraordinary group of professionals and the students we serve. Natchaug is a thriving community of learners who are committed to excellence in academics and social emotional learning. I am proud to say that most students find a “home” with us despite struggling to feel successful in other school settings. These successes are what fuel our passion for education and serving some of the most needy or reluctant learners.

For more than 12 years, I have watched the progress our students make through the work of our dedicated and talented colleagues. At Natchaug, education extends far beyond the classroom as students learn more about themselves, each other, and their communities. We empower each student to thrive to the best of their ability, and we support them to successfully transition back to their public school or into life after graduation. The skills they gain within our programs are certain to support their success in the near and distant future.
